Covenant of Promise
We were once strangers and alienated from the covenant of promise – Eph 2:12
We find from the scriptures that God dealt with His people through the covenant God had made with the people.
The Mosaic covenant was based on law.
The Abrahamic covenant was on promise
One was conditional the other was not
The New Covenant is like the Abrahamic covenant – based on grace and faith
God gave Abraham a promise (Grace) and Abraham believed (Faith)
Galatians 3:29 – The church is Heirs according to promise.
Gal. 3:18 - Romans 4:16
The New covenant is a covenant of promise – 2 Cor. 1:20 – Rom. 4:17-21
The way in is the way on – Col. 2:6 - 2 Tim. 1:9
We also find from the scriptures that when God gives a promise, He does not want human effort. No fingerprints on His work – Isaiah 64:4 – Phil. 2:13
God gives promises to Abraham, and he does not wait – Ishmael
He gives promises to Isaac, and he waits – 100-fold return in famine
He gives promises to Jacob, and he makes a vow – works (one-tenth tithe)
Promises are not contingent on our works but God’s.
Abraham gave his wife away within the three months she was to conceive.
Psalm 103:14 – God considers are form, our weakness – our unbelief and darkened understandings. Yet God is faithful with His promises in-spite of our weakness.
Jacob and Laban – two cheats work on each other.
Faith is a trust response to a given set of facts and promises.
1 Peter 1:4 “I will do what those precious promises tell Me to do.”
